Period House: The Past Revisited

periodhouse-apr06Jenny & Tim’s period kitchen featured in the April 2006 issue of Period House magazine, highlighted their handmade painted cabinets and oak dresser, all crafted by D.G. Clifton & Son:

“When Jenny decided to move back to the Surrey village she was brought up in, it was her mother who came up with the notion that she and her family should consider buying Jenny’s childhood home. “My mother suggested this house after my father had passed away as it was far bigger than our property in London,” Jenny explains. She admits that her mother had originally installed the kitchen in the 60s, so it was desperately in need of some TLC. “When Mum designed her kitchen it was state of the art but, with four children, we needed plenty of space and were looking for something more up-to-date.”

Ideal Home: Classic Shaker Style

Ideal Home January 2003Back in 2003, Tony and Sheila Huggett’s bespoke kitchen was featured in Ideal Home Magazine,   showcasing their painted Shaker style cabinetry:

“After 20 years of living with their small, impractical kitchen, Sheila and Tony Huggett decided it was time for a complete change. ‘We wanted to increase the size of the room as the old one was really too small for us and our two grown-up children, Nicky and Christopher, who are both in their early twenties,’ Tony explains. ‘I’d fitted some old pine units in 1981, which, in the past few years, were starting to look very dated and worn with the usual wear and tear. We also needed to fit a new floor as the old one was very uneven. It was made up of a combination of quarry tiles, concrete and floorboards, all of which were covered with patterned lino.’
